Indian Americans have a stake in the Biden VP pick (CNN)

Most people take representation for granted.

It’s easy to, when you’ve always seen yourself in the books you’ve read, the shows you’ve watched, and in the history you learn in school.

Apu from The Simpsons was the only representation I had. I reached to claim Princess Jasmine. That’s all I had.

Kamala Harris is well-known for being the second Black woman elected to the Senate, but she’s also the first of South Asian descent.

That my Indian immigrant parents get to cast their vote for an Indian daughter of immigrants, that my in-laws (including my 89 year old grandmother-in-law) get to cast a vote for a Tamil woman…

I don’t have words. Just tears. Very happy tears.
