Pardon my French, but this is the most ass backwards, regressive, and infuriating blow to women’s rights in recent memory.
Offering free access to contraception is one of the best investments we can make, as a nation.
Contraception allows for half our workforce - women - to control if and when they have children and to manage certain diseases and health challenges, thus keeping them engaged in the workforce longer. Granted, we have another drastic issue on keeping them IN the workforce when they become parents…but that’s for another day.
Numbers don’t lie:
The out-of-pocket cost for an annual supply of oral contraceptive is about $1,200.
There are more women participating in the workforce than men.
More women in the workforce often means higher wages. For every 10% increase in women, wages increase by 5% - for women AND men.
