The sum of our parts is greater than the individual ones. This is what intersectionality matters.
They are cliches, but apt ones for this particular story.
The Black Lives Matter movement - particularly the demonstrations last summer - has led to significant change. Professional sports teams’ names are changing. Important news that has gone underreported - such as Latino Americans are killed by the police at the second-highest rate - is finally being reported on by mainstream outlets.
And most importantly, we’re seeing so many communities - Black, Latinx, indigenous, and Asian - come together to fight racism in all its forms.
The news can feel hopeless. But this is news worth celebrating.
