It feels like guns have more protections in the United States of America than its citizens. It feels like the right to bear arms trumps a person’s right to live. It feels like it is easier to purchase a gun than it is to vote or access medical care.
The first three reads in today’s #5SmartReads focus on guns in America - how and why the NRA is so effective, on what happened to the assault weapons ban, and a primer on the ATF (the government agency that’s responsible for enforcing the laws on alcohol, tobacco, and firearms).
I don’t know what the solution is. But I do hope these reads help provide a look at just how big this problem is, and foster some ideas on where we can go from here.
