I like to imagine how this nation’s founding fathers would react if transported to current day. This imagination always ends with my imagining Ben Franklin playing flip cup and Alexander Hamilton on the dance floor.

And now, I imagine James Madison writing a Twitter thread on this particular topic:

“The establishment of one religion over others attacked a fundamental human right—an unalienable right—of conscience. If lawmakers could destroy the right of freedom of conscience, they could destroy all other unalienable rights. Those in charge of government could throw representative government out the window and make themselves tyrants.”

His words have never been more timely, as certain figures are rallying for Christianity to be the singular religion of this nation.

*deep breath* *screams into pillow*
