Hitha on attention, achievement, and who gets to rest
America's attention recession (Axios)
If you’re finding it hard to pay attention to…well, anything, you’re not alone.
It’s happening on a macro level as well, with streaming service memberships, news consumption on the decline from a peak from last year.
My take? That it’s a good thing. I can honestly say that not watching cable news (I stopped after the inauguration) and keeping my news consumption limited to reading newspapers and newsletters was a linchpin habit that’s also helped me read more (romance novels - I do not have the capacity to read literary fiction right now), put down my phone and pick up a craft, and literally unplug.
There are just a handful of days left in the year. If you need permission to do the same, here it is. You’ll be in great company.
