Loving books about reality tv shows and romance novels with women in stem as main characters! Helps me to not be watching a much tv but getting that summer fix! Loved Reality Bites by Amy Mass and now reading The Shippers by Katherine Center. Next up is Let’s Not Go Overboard Here.
THANK YOU for the Reality Bites rec - I read it in a day! Excited to add these to my TBR (and to trust myself that I’ll pick them up when the time is right)
I’m also in a rut! It seems like most people read more in the summer, beach reads, vacations, etc. But my work and life is so much more full in the summer I ALWAYS slow down. I’ve learned to embrace it.
I’m also a HUGE fan of the inkeeper chronicles (thanks to you) and always return to those when I’m in a rut.
Just started listening to The Paris Match (Bad on Paper rec) on Libby!
Before that, I re listened to the entire Windy City series for the 3rd time! Literally the only reason I ever resubscribe to Audible is for access to it.
It's only a matter of time before I need a hockey series, so I'm saving the WIndy City series for that! That it's a re-read for you is a solid endorsement.
In 2024, I had a months-long reading slump, and I just had to accept it. Every time I tried to force picking up a book, it didn’t go well. I got through it by reading millions of words of fanfic in spaces where I already knew the characters and the worlds; I also leaned into crafting and podcasts and other ways to entertain myself. I did eventually come out on the other side a stronger and more diverse reader, but it was so hard to accept that sometimes my silly brain couldn’t handle reading, as someone who identified as a reader.
When am I *not* in a reading rut?! I've read about 10 books (very slowly) so far this year, but that's halfway to my goals for the year. I have struggled badly with my reading attention span over the last 5 years. I did an immersive reading of Braiding Sweetgrass, by Robin Wall Kimmerer, where I read the book while listening to the audiobook, and I LOVED this experience! It was a beautiful book, too, one I highly recommend. I'm now reading Monk & Robot, but after starting it a week ago, I'm on about two chapters into it. I'm traveling this week, so I hope to dive in further!
My friend Charlotte recommended Braiding Sweetgrass to me earlier this year, and I plan to read it the way you did. I feel like that book is best experienced that way.
Just started Parisian heist. Feel free to buddy read!
Oooh! Let me finish my current reads, and will jump in with you!

I’m so glad you love Innkeeper! I’ve lost count at how many times I’ve read it, and it still hits every single time.

This is the best reminder to log back into AO3 and get lost in something new - thank you for the tip!

Thank you for sharing my essay— it’s sparked a very lively conversation!
I loved your short and long term framing of it. It calmed me down!
