naan pizza
the one dish no one complains about
Out of respect to the chefs and food creators I know, I will never call these a recipe. They are general instructions for the things I make frequently, hence a recipe-ish.
Are you signing up to be a short order cook when you make these? Yes. Is it worth it? Also yes.
This is how I make it enjoyable while getting everyone fed. I like to create a casual pizzeria setting—set two place settings at the counter, play millennial pop music (because the chef decides, always), and prep the pizzas on the side counter while chatting with the kids/my parents/Sri as if I was a pizza shop owner. I pretend to know nothing about them and ask super random questions (if you could be a super hero or super villain, who would it be and what is their favorite pizza? Who’s the best Ninja Turtle? For my mom, it’s asking her what’s going on in Brahma Mudi or one of her other shows).
It’s fun, and I’ll end with eating my own pizza solo while reading or watching something—just how I like it.
Ingredients
1-2 packages of mini naan (the kids and my parents eat 1 1/2-2 1/2 pizzas each, Sri and I eat 2-3 each)
Smooth pizza sauce
Shredded mozzarella (I like to use extra sharp white cheddar on mine)
Your toppings of choice. We do chopped bell peppers, onion, serranos, and plant-based pepperoni
Your seasonings of choice. We do ajwain, Calabrian crushed chili flakes, and Red Clay hot honey
Olive oil & pizza oil (these are the best ones, I’m a proud investor in Brightland)
Directions
Preheat your oven on broil (mine has a medium setting, which I use)
Place your mini naans on a baking sheet (I can fit 3 on my this one). Brush olive oil on either side.
Broil the naan for 2-3 minutes on each side, until the edges are brown.
Remove from the oven. Add sauce, seasonings, toppings, cheese, and top with a drizzle of the pizza oil. Place back in the oven and broil until the cheese is melted.
Cut and serve.
My favorite pizza is: sauce, ajwain and chili flakes, serranos, onions, and pepperoni, sharp cheddar, and topped with a drizzle of hot honey and pizza oil. It’s delicious.
