This year has been a redefining year, both personally and professionally. There are some roles I’m giving my full attention to, some I’ve dropped entirely, and some I’m pressing the pause-or-pivot button on.
Let’s do a little life update in the context of all my hyphens:
Mom + Wife + Daughter
Despite saying “I’m focusing on my family this year” for years now, this is the year I actually committed to it (out of desire and necessity).
This summer was focused purely on family, as we settled into our Pennsylvania house and non-city life (which was a big adjustment for the kids). The summer was a challenging one - the camp we signed the kids up for was an awful fit (we withdrew them after a couple of weeks) and we never really settled into a proper routine. Despite the chaos, the six of us grew a lot closer, and I am looking forward to spending more time in PA.
It was the right time for us to part with our incredible, longtime caregiver - an incredibly emotional decision, but the right one for all of us. We’re still adjusting to the evening routine (especially if one of us has an evening meeting), but I feel like we’re getting our sea legs.
The focus on family (and school being our primary source of childcare) means RSVPing no more than I ever have and managing my time better. It’s also brought me a greater sense of calm and presence, and less time on my phone.
Healthy
Last year took a toll on my health - my hysterectomy, bipolar 2 and hypothyroidism diagnoses, ongoing perimenopause - and I ended the year feeling like absolute garbage.
Much of this year has been focused on building a better foundation - proper nutrition, good sleep, getting back in a regular workout routine - to support my physical and mental health long term.
