THANK YOU for covering this! This rally is much debated here in Canada and a shameful representation of our nation. The South Asian trucker community in Ontario is over 90% vaccinated. The rally has been organized by extreme right wing, separatist, white supremesists and has raised a stupid amount of money. (Most people donating have no idea who they are supporting!) This rally has highlighted a number of our own issues in a very public sphere and given a voice to some who do not deserve it.
What’s happening in Canada feels all too familiar. @sharonsaysso reminds us often that things have been WORSE in the past and we’ve persevered. But I wonder how modern media is making everything worse, not better, when people can stay inside their echo chambers and with their version of the truth that omits facts. It’s scary.
It is embarrassing to be 🇨🇦 and watch these hate-filled ppl take up so much space and energy. It's also not surprising. The worst part? My friends at home saying they don't know what to say to their FRIENDS who are supporting and participating in these protests.
