I am a promiscuous reader. I enjoy all genres in all the formats (hardcover and paperback, audiobook, Kindle). I read when I’m waiting in line or in the minutes between meetings. I read via audiobooks when I’m doing chores or running errands. And I’ve been engaging in some serious revenge bedtime procrastination every night this week because Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling world is just too good.
Going to check out Copper Books! I just finished The Flatshare (which I LOVED) and Counterfeit (which I liked). Next on my list is Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow - and I honestly can’t wait. Also reading a product marketing book called Loved.
I hope you are feeling better this week. You gave the nudge I needed to start Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow next! (I almost said tomorrow, but it was one too many tomorrows 😬)
Highly recommend Source Bookstore as well to support. Black woman owned, literally the kindness people, and a wonderful in-store selection. When I visited from NYC last summer they could not have been more welcoming.
My reading activity is one of the best ways I take a read on my mental health (e.g. I think I read 2 or 3 books total for the first six months of the pandemic…I had zero focus with my anxiety so high). A few months ago, I found out my kindergarten teacher passed away (we had kept in periodic touch over the years). She was the one who taught me (and thousands of others) to read and it was a deeply moving thing to reflect on the incredible gift she gave me by inspiring my great love of reading. I am a reader because of her and I cannot overstate the impact that has had on my life.
I started “The No-Show” by Beth O’Leary this morning. British rom-coms make my heart happy ☺️
In terms of apps I use, I really like StoryGraph! It’s Black-owned and really easy to use, data on the books I’ve read is presented in a nice visual way, and I recommend it for anyone looking to an alternative from Goodreads.
issue #148 - the reading one
