Always only carryon. Always. If it’s too full with souvenirs I check it it on the way home but usually not. Pack for one week and wash when I am at friends
Or find a laundromat while I have good dinner. Did this in a 3 month trip all over several years ago. Layers and make sure you can mix and match. One pair speakers and one shoe which is nice comfy sandals in summer and boots in winter. Always wear the bulky shoe for flight. Always take chargers. Meds. Essentials in backpack or handbag in case you have to check bag at gate. Window for long or early flight. Aisle on return short flights. Take cream to hidrate and face cream when I remember. Always have light sweater or jacket in summer and down foldable for winter. Also a scarf that can be used as blanket or to wrap my neck and to enhance and outfit and cover shoulders for temples. Download good books on kindle or iPad depending on trip. Kindle is light to take in purse and for beach reading. iPad with kindle app for longer trips to also check email or google. Use TripAdvisor for all reviews and to find good food. Plan what I want to see and eat ahead of time is the best way to get excited and get good tips. Love local tips on walking tours. Usually do hop on bus first time to get the sights and then visit highlights. Ando great to rest feet or take nap on bus after lunch.
For longer or vacation trips, I always pack a foldable duffel. At the end of the trip, I pack all my dirty laundry in the duffel, and anything else that I bought I needed extra room for in my regular suitcase. When I get home, I take the duffel straight to the laundry room, so no need to sort as I unpack.
For work, I have 3-4 interchangeable work outfits, and I always pack those. Plus a pair of soft pants for lounging around the hotel room.
I love packing cubes and all necessaire bags where I can separate and organise… I often want to pack very few items but then also don’t want to realise I needed something and I didn’t pack it! Definitely don’t like packing…
I have my housekeeper come do a deep clean right before I arrive back home. There’s nothing like walking into your house all sparkly clean after a long (or even short) trip. I also make sure I have everything I need to meal prep my usual quinoa salad for work. These two things really make all the difference.
Maintain a things to do before/for a trip on Google notes. Swear by packing cubes
Have separate travel clothing - Khombu pants, UPF 50 tops, if I am going hiking and similar Briggs travel pants with dressier upf tops for other trips.
Best toiletry bag after trying umpteen options - my clear Wandt rectangular toiletry bags
Also a Wandt bag with slip on sleeve as my personal item.
Only 3 pairs of slippers/ shoes in a shoe bag. My hiking shoes with ankle protection, a slip on/dressy sneaker for evening's and Flojos slippers when I am not wearing either.
I pull out my packing cubes and put in the dresser drawer at the hotel and only take out the items I need to wear every day

I'm addicted to watching Forensic Files in the hotel room.
